This immersive event offers a unique opportunity to explore the intersection of local oil history and the First World War. Attendees will be able to watch engaging demonstrations on the Oil Museum grounds, while inside the Museum, a special display will showcase artifacts connecting Oil Springs and World War I. At several times throughout the weekend, Oil Museum staff will offer a presentation about Oil Springs’ residents at war. Attendees will also have the opportunity to write a postcard to send to a current serving member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
The Canadian Great War Society will be performing an obstacle course, route march, and Great War section attack practice. The group's cavalry section will also be here showcasing a lance & sword drill, mounted/dismounted rifle drill, tent pegging and formation riding. Attendees can also explore a mock military campsite.
Owners of automobiles from the 1910s to 1920s are invited to bring their vehicles for display. Vehicles will be expected to park on the grass and are limited to models and makes of the relevant era.
Admission to this event is free, with donations to the Oil Museum of Canada gratefully accepted. This event will feature weapons, simulated gunfire including rifles being fired with blanks, and discussions of battle and may not be suitable for all ages.
